GHPA is pleased to present nationally acclaimed author and historian William Seale as the keynote speaker for the 2009 National Preservation Month Luncheon at noon, Thursday, May 7, at River Oaks Country Club. Seale, author of “The President’s House: A History,” will examine the social history of the White House and the changes that have taken place since its construction more than 200 years ago.
GHPA is proud to announce that former First Lady Barbara Bush is serving as Honorary Chair of the luncheon and will attend the event. It is particularly appropriate since “The President’s House” includes the years President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush called the White House home. Cora Sue & Harry Mach, Annette and George Strake, and Nancy Ames and Danny Ward are co-chairs for the luncheon.
Seale appeared on “White House Week” on C-SPAN in December 2008 and on Book TV to discuss the new edition of “The President’s House.” In addition to his research and writing, Seale is a respected preservationist whose projects include the restorations of the Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan and Minnesota state capitols.
Please download a reservation form (in Word format / in pdf format) and reply by Monday, May 4, to attend this very special event. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has designated May as National Preservation Month to promote grassroots preservation efforts. The theme for Preservation Month 2009 is “this Place Matters.” GHPA is Houston’s Local Partner of the National Trust.
